Our History

Generations of recipes, relationships, and hard work.

Neomonde is more than a bakery. It’s our history, baked and delivered to you.

This is a story of the American Dream. What began as a dream in mountainous Northern Lebanon 40 years ago has now grown into a thriving brand, continuing to grow and serve its customer base while maintaining a level of quality baked goods that can’t be matched.

Neomonde Bakery started with an invitation for a new life in Raleigh, NC. Since then, the Saleh family has become a cornerstone in the community and beyond, all thanks to the roots and values instilled in the brothers by their mother Cecilia and her recipes. Grounded in the prayers of their mother, the Saleh brothers, Samir (“Sam”), Joseph (“Joe”), Mounir, and DeGaulle have built Neomonde Bakery on the pillars of great relationships (friendship), integrity (honesty), and quality and care towards their work (hard work).

“For Neomonde, baking isn’t just a profession, it’s a lifestyle, it’s who we are.”

Joe Saleh, Co-Founder, Neomonde Bakery

When the Saleh family immigrated to the United States in the 1970s, they brought with them their passion for bread and, most importantly, their mother’s recipes. With help from their uncle Moussa, a converted pizza oven, and space rented in a strip mall, the brothers opened Neomonde Baking Company in 1977. The name, an homage to their new country, meaning “New World.” Their goal: To make bread just like their mother.

Starting with just a few types of bread, Neomonde began landing wholesale customers like The Irregardless Cafe and Harmony Farms. As the Raleigh area grew, so did Neomonde’s customer base and product offerings. In the early 1980s, the storefront space was swapped for a freestanding facility and the growth didn’t stop there.

Launching into various avenues like a deli with seating for meals, Neomonde launched a small Mediterranean grocery so that fans of the restaurant could purchase all the exotic staples and spices to prepare Middle Eastern/Mediterranean cuisine at home.

Today, Neomonde bakes over 200 different varieties of breads and pastries over 600 wholesale clients, from Maine to Florida and as far west as Texas.

Neomonde is so much more than a bakery, it’s a story, it’s a craft, it’s an extension of the Saleh family to all who wish to join. So now, they invite you to join the family, take part in its traditions and indulge in the bakery like you were one of their own.
